Mrs. Almarie Mainer Smith was born October 4, 1924 to the union of Edmond and Estella Williams Mainer in Register, GA. In 1946 she married Wilford Smith; in that same year they moved to South Bend, IN. After moving to South Bend, she worked as a domestic housekeeper for 40+ years. She was a faithful member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church, where she served in the Missionary Department Sarah’s Circle #2. Anyone who knew her knew you could always find her dressed in her best hat and suit ensemble. On Wednesday, March 24, 2021 she passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edmond and Estella Williams Mainer; her husband, Wilford Smith ; two sons, Carl Mainer and Richard Smith (Davene); two brothers Ulysees Mainer, and Oliver Mainer and her two sisters Anita Mainer and Carlie Evelyn Mainer Smith. Those left to spread her love and memories are her daughter Elaine Smith; her son Alphonso Smith; her nieces and nephews, Jimmy Smith, Jerome Smith, Ulysees Smith, Martha Smith, Betty Smith, Cindy Gibson, Stanley Smith, and Evon Smith. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Carl E. Mainer Jr., Anthony Mainer, Carla Smith, Raheem Smith, DeShawn Smith, Elisha Smith, and Natasha Smith. She has 26 great -grandchildren and 5 great -great grandchildren as well as a host of close family and friends. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to a special son, Gary Heard and the nurses from Grace Hospice and their staff for taking care of Almarie and showing her unconditional love.
