Anita B (Boyd) Columbus

Anita B. Columbus 67, of South Bend, IN was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Thursday November 3, 2016.

She was born on September 17, 1949 in Shreveport, LA to the union of Willie C. Boyd and Pauline Whitelow Boyd. Anita was a graduate of Bethune Cookman Sr. High School Class of 1967. She married Karl Columbus Sr.  Anita relocated to South Bend, IN in 1975 where she nurtured her four children.  While successfully raising her children Anita received a degree in business from Indiana University South Bend. She was an active member of New Salem Baptist Church, where she served as the financial secretary for many years. She worked in the business field until she retired in 2011.  Anita enjoyed listening to music, cooking, traveling, watching sports, and spending time with her family.

Anita’s greatest achievements have been in the lives of her family and friends. She had a unique gift to recognize and appreciate the talents in others and to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence. Her kind heart and beautiful personality allowed her to touch the lives of many. Anita’s generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family, and friends, including an attitude that would let you know how she felt, but would never turn anyone away.  She leaves all her children and grandchildren with the knowledge that they were truly loved and they know that she loved the Lord.

Anita was predeceased by her father Willie C. Boyd and mother Pauline Whitelow Boyd. Maternal grandparents, James Whitelow Sr. and Pearl Nolan Whitelow. Paternal grandmother Willie Edwards.  Anita leaves to cherish her memory four children, Karl W. Columbus Jr., Paul Columbus, both of South Bend, IN SheiliQuita (John) Anderson of Tampa, Fl. And Monica Lawrence of South Bend, IN One brother Charles Boyd (Ann)  of Houston Tx. And one sister Carrie Sue B. J. Walker of Shreveport, La. Fourteen grandchildren, Paul Columbus, DeMarquez Columbus, Karla Columbus, Karl Columbus III, Joh’nissa Anderson, Kenya Columbus, K’erria Columbus, Jaleah Anderson, Reontre Lawrence, Reniya Columbus, Nadia Columbus, Renita Columbus, Tevaughn Columbus, and Quentez Columbus. One great grandson DeMarquez Columbus.  A special nephew Lester M. Johnson Jr. and her best friend, Edna Dozier.  A host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
