Bobby M. Steward: A Celebration of Love for Bobby M. Steward will be held Friday, November 20th, 2020 at 2:00pm at Cobb Funeral Home; 3525 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, Indiana 46614 Elkhart, IN - Bobby McCarley Steward, lovingly known as Sonny or Bobby Lee, was born February 12, 1949 in Benton County Mississippi, to Jimmy B. Steward and Lucille (McCarley) Lake, who preceded him in death. Bobby was raised in Collierville, TN and later found his way to make a life in Elkhart, IN. He was employed at HacKney Pipe for 33 years before he retired. He will be remembered with an infection smile and always wearing a baseball cap. Bobby was a generous, nurturing, fun-loving person, who loved his family, especially his wife. He enjoyed his hobbies such as framing classic newspaper articles, working on lawns, and watching television (specifically NASCar) and reading the Bible. His passion was truly his grandchildren. Bobby never met a stranger. In a matter of minutes, one would feel connected and bonded with Bobby as if simply conversating with a life-long friend. His impact extended to his neighbors, extended family, and especially young people. There will always be a part of Bobby that will live forever with anyone who knew him. Bobby made his transition on Monday, November 16th, 2020. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his loving wife Valretta (Scott) Steward. After twenty years of friendship, Bobby married his best friend in May of 2008. He also leaves behind his children: Alicia Steward and Michelle Barnes both of South Bend, IN; Mitchell Parks of South Carolina, Dirkson Parks of Bristol, IN, Steve Parks of California, Randall Steward of Warsaw, IN, Ryan Steward and Nicole Steward both of TX: Step-children: Valerie Suggs of Indianapolis, IN, Jarris (Sarah) Suggs of California, Brandon Suggs of Elkhart, IN; Siblings: Vickie (Fredrick) Jones and Alfreda Hines both of Collierville, TN; James Eddie (Shirley) Lake, Leonard Lake, Frank Lake, Helen (Henry) Wallace, Lisa Lake, Brooke Steward, Mabel Steward, Patricia Steward all of Memphis, TN; Aunt Queen, of Grand Junction, TN, Aunt Billie Jean (Kelsey) Kizer of Mississippi; 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a special cousin, Edward Steward of Memphis, TN, best friends Maurice Sleepers and Marshall Bailey both of Elkhart, IN and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceded in death were Bobby’s parents, a brother, Willie Bob Steward and a sister, Dianne Thomas.
