Mother Claretha Weathers, 91 of South Bend, Indiana departed this life on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, after an illness. She was born on January 18, 1933, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to the union of the late Earnest and the late Annie Carter. She grew up in Clarksdale.
On July 15, 1953, she was united in Holy Matrimony to Charles James Weathers in Clarksdale; they moved to South Bend in 1955. To their union 10 children were born.
Mother Claretha Weathers accepted Christ at the young age of 12 at Damascus Missionary Baptist Church in Clarksdale, under the leadership of the late Reverend W. H. Lane. After moving to South Bend Mother Weathers’ love and dedication to God was directed and inspired by some great men of God. She was a part of the ministries of the late Pastor W.O. Coats Sr., the late Pastor Silous Anderson, Sr. and the late Pastor Carl Steen, Sr. After the passing of Pastor Carl Steen, Sr.; she remained a faithful member of Saints Memorial COGIC, under the Pastorate of Bishop Carl J. Steen, Jr. until her passing. Mother Weathers was a dedicated church mother who truly loved the Lord. She was deeply faithful in her service to God which enabled her to touch many lives and lead many to Christ. Mother Weathers was a devout prayer warrior alongside 1st Lady Jacqueline Steen where many lives were encouraged, changed and were blessed.
Mother Claretha Weathers was a hard and dedicated worker throughout her life. She was a surgical instrument technician at Memorial Hospital; she retired in 1991 after 22 years of service.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her children: Willie (Susan), Charles E., Darry, Norma (Tony) Coleman, and Betty all of South Bend and Melvin of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 18 grandchildren; a host of great and great-great grandchildren; a Goddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Watson, of South Bend; one sister, Mother Viola Moore of Niles, Michigan; a special friend, Velma Holliday, along with many nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters in Christ and other friends.
Along with her parents Mother Weathers was also preceded in death by her husband Charles James Weathers; four sons, Levi, Larry, Kevin and Kenneth; a grandson, Jermon Weathers; a granddaughter Stacy Weathers; and seven siblings Emmett, Willie, Ananais, Mabel Cecelia Lathion, Mammie Hinton, Easter Dillard, Alma Hunter and Anner Mae Strawder.
The memory of her beautiful presence will be etched in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
