Shortly after graduation, Claudia followed her older sister Willa Mae (Leach) and her husband Jessie Busch to Beloit, Wisconsin, where she was employed by Fairbanks. After returning to South Bend, she attended Ivy Tech and became one of the first black students to graduate from their nursing program. Claudia started her nursing career at St. Joseph Hospital and later moved to Memorial Hospital, where she retired added dedicating 34 years of service as an LPN and as a Union Steward for Teamsters Local 364.
Claudia loved to crochet and was known for making beautiful baby blankets and afghans. She also enjoyed doing hidden word puzzles, watching Law and Order and Judge Judy. Claudia was also known for her famous spaghetti salad and deviled eggs.
When she was in better health, Claudia attended church at Rhema Word, where she was an active and dedicated member on the Mother’s Board.
