“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; lean not unto thine own understanding”
Proverbs 3:5
Ms. Doris Jean Wright was born on December 7, 1940, in Hayti, Missouri to the late Dora Pool-Lottie and the late Chester Jennings. She relocated with her family to South Bend at a young age. She passed away at the age of 83 on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
Ms. Wright was a Christian woman and joined Saint Luke's Memorial Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Pastor Fred Preston, Sr. She served on the Mother Board at St. Luke’s.
Granny Doris, as her grandchildren affectionately called her, was beautiful inside and out. She very much loved being a mother and a homemaker. She found such great pleasure in raising her children and spending time with them and their children. She also enjoyed going to the park, doing arts and crafts and was regarded as the overall life of the party. She was a fashionable woman who was always up on the latest fashion trends. She loved soul food with her favorites being catfish, spaghetti and sweet potato pie. She enjoyed watching soap operas and was a big fan of The Young and Restless and also The Bold and the Beautiful.
Doris leaves to cherish her memory her children, Octavia Chandler, Rhonda Mitchem, Elva Carothers, and Solomon Wright all of South Bend; her grandchildren, Paris Carothers, Ronald (Jamilah) Mitchem, Rochelle (Marcus) Smith, Stephanie Wright, Kevin Kiner Jr., Paris Wright and Clifton Wright; her great grandchildren, JayRion Carothers, Javion Mitchem, Jaylen Mitchem, Jace Mitchem, Sa’Niyah Steed, Major Goulson, Romell Smith and Ka’Marre Wright; four siblings, Cyde Jennings, Cedric Jennings, Lois Jennings and Karrie Ann Jennings; one sister-in-law, Deborah Jennings; a special friend, Melvin Hillman, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and close friends. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by three siblings, Ida Newborn, Richard Jennings, and Ruby Preston.
Sleep on dear mother and take your rest; although we all love you, God loves you best.
The family expresses great appreciation to everyone for all of the generous deeds expressed at this time. We greatly appreciate Mr. Cobb and his staff as well as the pastor and members of St. Luke Memorial Church of God In Christ. May God continue to bless each of you.
