Freddie Saline Aldridge

November 9, 1914 ~ April 24, 2015 (age 100) 100 Years Old

Freddie Saline Aldridge departed this life peacefully on April 24, 2015 in South Bend, Indiana at the age of 100 years.

Freddie was born on November 9, 1914 in Arlington, TN to Horace Grimes and Sallie Littlejohn Grimes. She graduated from Manassas High in Memphis, TN and attended Henderson Business College also in Memphis. She married Othor V. Aldridge and moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1948.

Freddie had a passion for writing and often wrote poems and speeches in her spare time.  She loved the stage and performed locally and while living in Memphis. A generous/witty/dedicated individual, Freddie loved people and was passionate about working in her community. She was an active member of the New Salem Baptist Church before her illness would no longer allow her to attend. She also served many years as a community volunteer for organizations such as Head Start and the Women’s Senior Club at the Charles Black Center.

Freddie is survived by her children: Waddell Grimes, Al Aldridge (Barbara), Gail Elwell (Raymond), Marilyn Bassett, Maurice Aldridge (Brenda), and Gwendolyn Allen; siblings: Annie Laura Grimes, Elbert Grimes, Mary Young, and Herbert Grimes (Martha), all in Memphis, TN; and Edward Grimes(Catherine) in North Hills, CA.  She leaves 16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives.  She was preceded in death by her husband Othor V. Aldridge, her brother Walter, her sons Larry and Floyde and her daughter Cynthia.

The family would like to thank the staffs of The St. Joseph County Center for Hospice and the Sanctuary at Holy Cross. And we'd also like to thank the many friends for their care and compassion.
