Janice Winthrop - Linton Obituary

Mrs. Janice Louise Winthrop-Linton, affectionally known as “JJ,” was born on May 13, 1949, in Port Richey, Florida to the union of the late Leroy Benjamin and the late Ella Mai Winthrop.  She passed away on November 8, 2024; she was 75 years old. Janice accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Union Missionary Baptist Church where her family was also members.

Janice graduated from Pinellas High School in 1967. After graduation she relocated to Cleveland, Ohio. It was there she met Robert Jackson Sr. and together, they shared three children: Tiffany, Tawana, and Robert Jr.  Janice also gained a bonus daughter, Nila.They relocated to South Bend, Indiana in 1973 where Janice made a beautiful life for her and her children.

In 1995 she met the love of her life “Eddie;” they united in marriage in 1997. Janice and Eddie spent the past 27 years taking care of one another. Janice devoted 31 years in the field of hospitality working at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center; she retired in 2008. 

Janice was a longtime member of Laymen Chapel CME Church where she served as the Michigan Indiana Annual Conference Chaplin of Stewardess, Vice President of the                 Laymen Chapel CME Stewardess, Superintendent of Sunday School, Member of Retired                Ladies Group, & Chymes Singing Group. Janice also was an avid bowler and was part of several bowling leagues and tournaments throughout the years.

In her retirement Janice enjoyed serving her church, traveling, singing, playing board games and spending time with her pride and joy, her kids and grandkids. You could also always catch her alongside or rolling down the highway with one of her “sister-friends.”  Janice was also widely known for her famous tuna fish which was highly requested at every single event near or far.

Janice leaves to cherish her loving husband Canute “Eddie Mon” Linton of South Bend; three daughters; Nila “NiNi” Jackson, Tiffany Winthrop (Darrius), Tawana “Tj” Jackson (Jasmine), all of South Bend; one son, Robert (Schyton) Jackson Jr. of Atlanta, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Tanika, Ashlee, Tre, Quila, Jalin, Honor, Ryan and Aryan; six great grandchildren, Quanya, Quincy, TyJhorn, Jackson, Nila, and Tatum ; three stepchildren; Lashana Linton, Latoya Linton, and Kevin Linton; brothers, Herman (Diane), Larry Joe, and Burman; special friends “The Golden Girls, ” the entire Pittman family; special sons, Tony Taylor and Randy Shelton; special daughter, Quila (Anthony) Pettus, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Leola, Betty, Vera, Bonnie, Dorothy and Linda and brothers, David Lee, Leonard, & Courtney.

Janice’s warm and loving personality will be dearly missed. Her beautiful memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
