Jessie Lee (Washington) Broadnax

Mrs. Jessie Lee Broadnax passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Healthwin Specialized Care. She was 84 years old.
Born Jessie Lee Washington on January 22, 1932 in Memphis, TN, she had spent her adult life as a resident of South Bend, IN.

She was married to George Broadnax on April 17, 1949 and they enjoyed 52 years together. He preceded her in death in August 2001.

Jessie was employed for more than twenty years as a crossing guard with the South Bend Police Department and was also employed with Notre Dame University for seventeen years.
She was an active member of The Order of Eastern Star and in recognition of her commitment; she was honored by having a chapter named for her: The Jessie Broadnax Chapter #42.
Surviving to cherish her memory are daughters Carol Washington, Ora Gordon and Jessica Broadnax of South Bend; sister, Joanne Newhouse and a brother Willie Washington also of South Bend. Twenty nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren also survive her along with other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, James and Viola Washington, daughter, Betty Broadnax (03/01/2016), a sister, Ora L. Broadnax and brother Oscar Postell.
