Joe Jones Obituary

Mr. Joe Jones, Sr., 75, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2022, following an extended illness related to dementia. He was born on September 16, 1946, in Swiftown, Mississippi to the union of Rebecca and Eddie Jones, Sr.; they both preceded him in death.

Joe was raised and educated in the Mississippi school system and graduated from Leflore County High School. He later relocated to South Bend. On January 25, 1971, in South Bend he was united in marriage to Mary Jones who survives. Joe was an over the road truck driver and enjoyed driving the 18-wheelers. After many years in the industry, he became an independent driver and retired from the profession in 2005. Joe’s profession enabled him to continue on in one of his favorite past times — traveling. He traveled all over the country, sometimes driving his mother and other family members to visit other family and various tourist sites. Joe was also a man who enjoyed spending time with his family, entertaining them and others with his wit and funny stories. He also enjoyed repairing cars and was happy to share his knowledge with anyone who asked him for help.

Along with his wife, Joe also leaves to mourn his passing five sons, Tom Jones and Joe Jones, Jr., both of South Bend; Samuel Jones and Quincy Jones both of Indianapolis, Indiana and Wesley Thomas of Toledo, Ohio; four daughters, Stephanie Ivy of Mishawaka, Indiana; Shalaunda Jones of South Bend; Rebecca Jones of Lafayette, Indiana and Hannah Jones of Wolcott, Indiana; 14 grandchildren; including a special granddaughter, Ka’Naicia Jones who was his supporter and caregiver; 13 great grandchildren; three sisters, Leola Jones of Terry, Mississippi; Beatrice Jones of Hazlegreen, Alabama and Dorothy (Calvin) Hoskins of Jackson, Mississippi; three brothers, David Jones and Percy Jones of Swiftown and Mack Henry Jones of South Bend along with a host of other family and friends.

Along with his parents Joe was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Ivy; a daughter, Bertha Tate and two grandsons, Stanley Washington and Daytron Tate.
