Mr. Julius U. Jefferies was born to the union of the late Eugene and the late Lillie Virl (Makupson) Jefferies on October 18, 1942, in Cherokee County, South Carolina. He went home to paradise on Saturday May 18, 2024.
He was educated in the South Bend School System and was a 1960 graduate of Washington High School. While in school Julius, having a great love for music, was a member of the Glee Club and upon graduation he started singing professionally with small combos and a local spiritual group known as The Harmony Kings. Julius was a talented singer, song writer and arranger of most of his music. He was once regarded as the “new” Sam Cooke. He established a singing group called Julius Jefferies and The Soulsations. He was the lead singer, affectionately called Mr. Songsation, and you could find the group performing on Saturdays at night clubs throughout Indiana and surrounding areas. In the mid-sixties Capitol Records relocated the family to Los Angeles, California where Julius recorded several demos for Capitol.
While living in Los Angeles Julius was employed at UPS for 13 years. While employed he continued his love for singing and did part-time gigs at various night clubs in the LA area.
Julius leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Sharie Jefferies; one son, Brandon Jefferies and one grandson, all of California; one sister, Freddie Mae Black of South Bend, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Julia Jefferies, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Along with his parents he was also preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby, Shannon, Weldon and John Wayne and one son, Jeffrey.
Julius was a kind and gentle man with a soft smile and excellent singing voice that echoed softly long after the song was over. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
