Laura Fisk Obituary

Mrs. Laura F. Fisk, affectionately known as "Aunt Frances" was born March 16, 1927 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas to the union of the late Mose and Mollie Roe. She passed away Thursday, June 25, 2026, she was 99 years old. She was united in marriage to Ray Fisk who preceded her in death.

Laura received her early education in Cotton Plant and Marianna Arkansas and later attended Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee.

She held various jobs in her lifetime and retired from the University of Notre Dame. She was a faithful member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she attended for many years until her health prevented her attendance.

Laura was a trailblazer leaving the south and headed north for a better life. After leaving Milwaukee, Wisconsin she made South Bend, Indiana her home. While in South Bend she opened up her door for numerous family members who also wanted to migrate north.

Laura loved her family immensely — each in her own special way. To know her was to love her, though she certainly kept us all on our toes. She greatly enjoyed gatherings with her family and friends for some good southern home cooking and cakes with plenty of flavor. She loved to crochet and make quilts. She was famous for her razor sharp wit and unwavering refusal to slow down for anyone.

Laura leaves to cherish her memory her only son, Jamil (Kareema) Muhammad Sr, whom she dearly adored. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren: Mark Arms, Rieva Allen, Fatima, Jamil, Aliyah, Kameelah, Shareefa, Haseenah and Ameerah Muhammad all of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; numerous great and great grandchildren, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends, who will miss the wisdom, the sass and endless humor that only a matriarch of 99 years can  provide.

Along with her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sisters Alberta Murdock, Evelena Buirse, Eugenia Hall and Geneva Snelling and  brothers Lewis, Millard and Archie Roe.

Laura's fiery, spirited personality and unfiltered opinions will be dearly missed. Her beautiful memory and humor she brought to life will live on in the hearts of those who loved and knew her.
