Lavance Charles Williams was born on October 25, 1946 in Register, Georgia to the late Ruby and Eugene Williams, Sr. With family by his side, Charles made his transition from this earthly life on Friday, June 16, 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Mishawaka, Indiana.
He was raised in Register, Georgia and attended New Hope School. He later settled in South Bend and was employed with Eagle Products and Dodge RMG Foundry, both of Mishawaka.
Charles is survived by his loving family of four sons: Randy (Angela) Dekle of Swainsboro, Georgia, Charles Levon (Hope) Williams of Tallahassee, Florida, De Carlos Scott and Christopher Clark of South Bend; three daughters: Judy VanHouten, Linda VanHouten and Elizabeth Clark of South Bend; four brothers: Edward (Grace) Williams of Register, Georgia, Eugene (Betty) Williams, Jr. of South Bend, Donald and Benton Williams of Statesboro, Georgia; and two sisters: Ruby Williams-Farmer of Duarte, California and Angela (Joseph) Lovett of Statesboro, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves a former wife, Johnnie Williams of Statesboro, Georgia; sister-in-law, Martha Williams of South Bend; a special aunt, Ida Wigfall; an uncle, Sewonie (Mamie) Mincy; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other beloved family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Melanie Martin-Williams; brothers: Carl Williams, Burnell Williams, Le Elvan Williams and Steve Williams; and sister-in-law, Jessie Williams.
Many loved Charles and he will be remembered for his big heart and loving spirit. He enjoyed making everyone laugh and his smile would light up any room. He had a great love for children and would do whatever he could to help them.
We all count it a great joy to have loved such a great man. His smile, words of inspiration and love will remain forever in our hearts. "Sleep on Charles and take your rest." We love you, but Jesus loved you best.
