Lester “Buddy” William Coleman was born in Carroll County, TN, June 7, 1957 to Mary T. Coleman. He departed this life after an extended illness on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Elkhart General Hospital. Buddy was 63 years old.
Buddy graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1976. He is remembered as a standout athlete participating in football, track, and basketball. Buddy had the spirit of a protector and warrior. After graduation, that spirit compelled him to join the US Marines. He was proud to have served his country. His call name was “Money C”. His Marine adventures sent Buddy all around the world but, he always called Elkhart, Indiana his home.
A construction worker by trade, Buddy worked hard. His fingerprint can be seen through his work on many streets and bridges in Elkhart, including the Jackson Street Bridge and the US 20 Bi-Pass. Buddy enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, cracking jokes and simply laughing. If you heard some random whistling, that was most likely Buddy whistling a tune. Most likely a Frankie Beverly and Maze selection. Buddy was a master roller skater and a self-proclaimed lady’s man. But there was simply nothing more important to Buddy than being surrounded by his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his three daughters; Chakiea Jackson Sheppard, Irenna Coleman, Winona Chirenna Coleman, all of Elkhart, IN; Stepchildren: Derrick Bramley, Jr. and Denesha Bramley both of Indianapolis, IN. Grandchildren: Alexis Leonard, Steve Griffin III, Lewis Leonard III, Tracy Sheppard III, KenRell Russell; and six step grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
Also missing Buddy are his Siblings: James R (Eva) Coleman of Warsaw, IN, Eula M. Coleman-Thomas, Janice M. Coleman, Anthony G. Coleman, and Eddie (Marilyn) Coleman all of Elkhart, IN; and a host of nieces and nephews that he treated like his own children. Preceding him in death were his beloved mother Mary and his sister, Linda Robinson.
