Lois Lee Staggers 82, passed away quietly on Wednesday, May 27 at Memorial Hospital.
Lois was born to the union of Marie Watkins and Superintendent Phillip Watkins Sr. on February 25, 1933 in West Helena, Arkansas. She was a graduate of Eliza Miller High School and Philander Smith College (HBCU) in Little Rock, Arkansas. Lois had been a resident of South Bend for more than 50 years. She was previously employed by Memorial Hospital and she was a partner in the former Fennessee Bar B Que Restaurant.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory a daughter, Joanna (Maurice) Wilkins of South Bend; sons James (Jayme) Staggers of LaPorte, Terry Staggers (Angelic Whitener) of South Bend, Alvin and Dale Anthony Staggers. Lois had 12 loving grandchildren that will miss her dearly and 20 great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.
Also surviving her are two sisters Ruth (Superintendent Samuel L.) Diggins of South Bend and Ora Jones of Detroit MI; and six brothers, Joseph (Betty) Watkins, Charles (Shirley) Watkins both of West Helena Arkansas, Harold Watkins of Saginaw MI, and Milton (Shirley) Watkins, Bishop John H. (Willa Mae) Sheard and Otis (Ethelrine) Sheard all of Detroit MI.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents Superintendent Phillip and Marie Watkins, a daughter, Beverly Ann Staggers, a brother, Phillip Watkins, Jr. and a sister, Geraldine Jennings.
