Louis J. Robinson

Louis J. Robinson passed away Sunday, October 11, 2015. He was 67 years old.

Louis was born September 24, 1948, in Laurel, Mississippi.  He was the youngest of four children born to the late Leroy & Lilian Robinson. 

Louis came to Elkhart in 1963 and attended Pierre Moran Junior High School. He graduated from Max High School in Cleveland, Ohio.  He returned to Elkhart in the late 1970’s and worked for Armstrong Band Instruments for several years.  Louis retired from the City of Elkhart after working in several departments (Cemetery, Public Works, Utilities and Streets and Sanitation).

He was a member of the South Side Political Association and was a devoted and founding member of the Elkhart Black Expo, Inc. where he served as Sergeant at Arms.  He enjoyed socializing with family and friends where he would ply his passion for being a grill master. He loved to Bar-B-Que and “talk trash.”  Louis was a flashy dresser and at the last EBE event he was on the floor with his cane dancing the night away.

Louis is survived by daughters Eva Robinson-Schley, Marie Robinson-Wallace, Ladonna Hawkins and JoCinta Borum and “stepdaughters” Katrina and Eugenia. Gloria Jackson (his companion of 20 years), a sister, Martha Dale George and brother LeRoy Robinson also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter April Robinson and a sister, Alice Barnet.
