Mae Ruby, affectionately known as Ruby to family and friends, departed from this life on October 30, 2014 at Golden Living Center-Brookview in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The eldest of 14 children, she was born May 10, 1932 to
Henry and Pattie McCain in Brighton, Tennessee. While living in Brighton, Ruby dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She married Roy Donald Goodman on June 13, 1953 in Desoto County, Mississippi. In 1954, they became a part of the great migration to the north when they moved to Elkhart in search of better employment opportunities. They divorced in 1963. He preceded her in death.
Ruby worked at Elkhart General Hospital for 10 years and retired from Miles Laboratories in 2000 after 30 years of employment. She was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. She enjoyed bowling and golf, as well as collecting and selling antiques, a love she shared through the years with her parents, Henry and Pattie McCain.
Surviving are two sons, Ronald McCain of Los Angeles, CA and Sony Goodman of Indianapolis, IN (Rosalind), one daughter, Sabrina Goodman Williams of Decatur, AL, one grandson, Ronald Arnett Williams of Decatur, AL (Kristi) and one great grandson, Ronald Arnett Williams II of Decatur, AL. She is also survived by sisters, Bertha Carter, Detroit, MI, Billie Green, Baltimore, MD, Thelma Williams, South Bend, IN, Margaret McCain, South Bend, IN, Dottie Rockett, Elkhart, IN, Rita Lyles, Anthem, AZ; brothers John McCain, Milwaukee, WI, Jeff McCain, Elkhart, IN, and Marlon McCain, Elkhart, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Lou Venia Gaines, and her brothers, Willie, Learone and James McCain. Ruby was loved and will be remembered by a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
