Margarett McCain, 77, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Sunday, May 9, 2021 after a brief illness.
Margarett was born on November 3, 1943 in Brighton, Tennessee to Henry and Pattie McCain. She graduated from Barrett’s Chapel High School and moved to Elkhart, Indiana in 1962. Her passion for education led her to enroll in Indiana University, Bloomington to pursue a career as a teacher and became the first in the family to get a college degree. She went on to get her master’s in education from IUSB, and spent 44 years in the South Bend Community School Corporation inspiring children to dream big dreams and be the best they can be.
Margarett was preceded in death by her Mother Pattie Belle (Jackson) McCain and father Henry (Harrison) McCain, sisters Mae Ruby (Roy) Goodman, Lue Venia (Frank) Gaines, and Billie Jean (Charles) Green, and brothers Willie, Johnny, Learone, and James McCain.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Kai McCain, siblings Bertha Mae Carter, Thelma L. Williams, Dottie & Chester Rockett, Rita & Willie Lyles, Jeffery McCain, Marlon & Marie McCain, and her sister by heart, Sharon Hurt.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends and family make a donation to the Education Foundation for South Bend Community School Corporation in memory of Margarett McCain.
