She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Douglas M. Johnson.
My Lee is survived by her children, Jason B. Johnson of South Bend, IN, Jaron Q. Johnson (Lisa) of Mesa, AZ an Annie R. Johnson of South Bend IN; grandchildren Jacquoi (Jason) and Zion (Jaron and Lisa); siblings, Queen E. Hamilton of South Bend IN, Rosetta (Willie) Corbitt of South Bend, IN, John W. Johnson of South Bend, IN, George (Vera) Johnson of Moss Point, MS, Jerrie D. Crocker of Detroit, MI, and LeAnna (Anton) Breveard of South Bend, IN. Best friends, Sister Susan Kintzel of Saint Mary’s College Notre Dame IN, Fr. Thomas Streit, CSC, Fr. Daryl and Fr. Rybicki of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in South Bend IN also survive her.
May Lee served the City of South Bends residents through The Saint Hedwig Outreach Center, taught at Saint Bavo, Saint Adelbert, and De LaSalle in Chicago IL.
May Lee was an author, singer and community activist who received many acknowledgements for her tireless efforts aiding the under-represented and poor.
She retired from the South Bend Tribune in 2015 after 20 years of service.
