Nellie Kay (Smith) Jennings, age 70 years young, resident of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at her home with her husband at her side.
Nellie was born on January 21, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana to her parents, DeWarren Smith and Lucille Smith, who preceded her in death. Nellie is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband of over 30 years, James H. Jennings Jr. of South Bend, Indiana; her two children, Marcus A. LaSane (Brooke) of Granger, Indiana and Renee M. LaSane of South Bend, Indiana. Nellie was a wonderful sister to and survived by Eileen Davidson of South Bend, Indiana, James Causey of Mishawaka, Indiana, Terry S. Smith (Jeanette) of St. Louis, MO. and predeceased by DeWarren A. Smith, Jr. Nellie was also survived by six (6) grandchildren, two (2) great grandchildren and nieces and nephews who love her dearly.
Nellie was a graduated from Washington High School of South Bend in 1969 and continued her education at Indiana University of South Bend through continuing education classes. She started her career with Teachers Credit Union in 1978 as a teller and with dedication and hard work retiring as Vice President of the IRA Department after over 30 years of service.
Nellie was a cherished member of Greater St. John Missionary Baptist Church. She was actively involved in the choir and other activities of the church. She had a beautiful voice and loved surviving God by praising his name. She loved to cook, she loved to sing, she adored her husband, family and friends. She enjoyed laughing and spending time with the ones she loved and those who loved her. She will be GREATLY missed.
