Ora Lee Blue, a long-time resident of South Bend Indiana, died Wednesday the 3rd of February 2016 at the age of 84.
Ora was born on February 17, 1931 in Cedar Bluff, MS to John E. Bell and Alberda Spates. After moving to Decatur, IL, she married James W. Perkins. Over a period time, the couple welcomed 8 children into their home.
Ora is preceded in death by parents John E. Bell and Alberda Spates, former spouse James Perkins, siblings Lillian Pearl Bell, Johnny Rainey and John Bell; granddaughters Shamegieko Lord and FaYette Carlton and a great grandson, Philemon King.
While only obtaining a Junior High School education, she became a restaurant entrepreneur and owner. In her career shift, she took a position as a caretaker, assisting throughout the community. She also worked as a Café attendant, until she retired. Ora Lee loved good food and socializing, enjoyed reading the bible and witnessing the gospel to family and friends.
Ora is survived by her 8 children, James (Karen) Perkins of Berrien Center, MI, Linda (Jack) Derrickson, Ronnie Perkins and Gloria (Don) Sanders of South Bend, IN, LaVette (Calvin) Knox of Dallas, TX, Mark (Margo) Perkins of Tucson, AZ, Jeremiah Perkins of Decatur, IL and Timothy (Joyce) Perkins of Zion, IL along with 33 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also surviving her are siblings: Queenester Bell, Felicia Ismal, Anna Mae Bell, Josephine Hicks, Mardetta Green, Frank Bell, Willie B. Bell, Perry Bell, Nathan Bell, Arthur (Mile) Hicks and Robert Dallas.
The family would like to thank Ivunia, Shakinah and Takonah who helped their mom and was there for granny. Also, Julia Derrickson, Megan Carlo & Lolita Johnson for all their help and services.
