Ronald Hawkins Obituary

Ronald “Ronnie” Hawkins, 63, of South Bend, Indiana, passed away on May 10, 2020. He was born March 30, 1957, in South Bend, Indiana to Patricia Hawkins and the late Jake Hawkins. Ronnie was a graduate of James Whitcomb Riley High School. He served with the United States Navy for three years. Upon honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to South Bend to serve on the South Bend Police Department for 23 years before retiring.

Ronnie, avid for giving his loved ones nicknames, is survived by his mother, Patricia “P.L.” Hawkins; the mother of his children, Sharon “J.P.” Hawkins; daughters, Denise “Pooh” Curry, Shawniece “Cheeks” Hawkins, Sherrell “Pooter” Hawkins and Sharmane “Tootie” Hawkins and his grandchildren he adored, Shanin “Duda” Brown, Jordan “J-Bug” Williams, Dyamond “Lil Mama” Jackson, Brielle “Princess” Kamanda, and Chasen “Junior” Patton. Ronnie also leaves behind his sisters, Valerie Huston, Linda Dawning, Stephanie Daniels, Sandra Hawkins, Adena Hawkins, and Angela (Howard) Davidson; godsons, Kevin Bass-Williams and Tyler (Tia) Rouse, and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Ronnie was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Hawkins, and father, Jake Hawkins.

His daughters would like to first and foremost apologize to anyone he may have offended as Ronnie had a unique way of saying the most inappropriate things at the most inappropriate times but you could not help but love him for it. He was known for being quite the charmer. His raw, unfiltered personality is unmatched but fortunately, he left four smart, beautiful, amazing, talented daughters who share those same qualities. Ronnie always had a love for cars and could be seen cruising around town whether it be in his Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, BMW, Jeep Cherokee, or Lincoln Navigator. He was an avid music fan with a vast collection of vinyl and CDs and was a regular at Rice’s Records. Ronnie loved sports. He could be seen at all of his daughter’s sporting events cheering enthusiastically from the stands.  Ronnie made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
