Sony Goodman, age 67, of Elkhart, Indiana, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, June 3, 2025; his loving family was by his side. He was born on December 26, 1957, to the late Roy and Ruby Goodman. A lifelong resident of Elkhart, Sony lived a full and generous life, rooted in love, family, and hard work.
He was united in marriage to Rosalind Goodman, and together they shared 43 beautiful years of companionship -- 31 of them in marriage. From the beginning, Sony embraced Rosalind’s six children and their growing family with open arms, becoming a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.
Sony was known for his rambunctious spirit, big heart, and his sharp sense of humor — always ready with a joke to lift the moment and he kept his family smiling even during his final days. A true Jack of all trades, Sony was skilled with his hands and passionate about his work. At just 18 years old, he began a lifelong career building swimming pools, a trade he practiced with pride for over four decades, concluding his career in 2021 with Barton Pools; where he enjoyed working under the leadership of a great boss, Jeff Barton.
In his early years Sony developed a great love for music which led him to play in a band; this love for music continued as he enjoyed playing bass guitar with his cousin Bobby McCain. Sony had a natural gift for working with his hands. He was a master of barbecue and, along with Rosalind, opened a restaurant, **Rib-A-Roma** and later catered with their award-winning barbecue from their custom-built pit. Sony didn’t like getting rid of anything because he believed that everything had some value which resulted in him being a collector of many things.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Rosalind Goodman; brother Ronald McCain; sisters Sabrina Williams (who gave him his first nephew, Ron Williams) and Portia Goodman; six children: Rita (Willie) Jackson, Priscilla Parish, Karen (Matthew) Allen, Kevin Williams, Terry (Rose) Williams, and Christina Washington; 17 grandchildren, 76 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Preceding Sony in death along with his parents are two great grandsons, Travon Furlow and Anthony Johnson.
