Ms. Valerie Denise Flemons, beloved daughter, sister, aunt, niece and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 21, 2023, surrounded by her family and close friends. She was born on December 3, 1960, in South Bend, Indiana to Ruby Lee Pittman. She was a member of Layman Chapel CME Church under the leadership of Reverend A. Terrell Jackson. Valerie, affectionately known as “Val” was a beautiful beacon of light to all who knew her. She had unconditional love for her family and friends. Val was a proud 1978 graduate of LaSalle High School. She graduated from Ivy Tech Community College and completed her studies at Pasadena Community College in Pasadena, California. She was employed with Portage Manor for over 25 years as a Qualified Medical Assistant and retired in 2012. Her hobbies included game nights with family and friends, watching her soap operas and enjoying the Pittman Family Reunions and gatherings. She never missed a family event! Val was the music connoisseur of the family. She loved singing along, whether she knew the words or not, and had a crispy finger snapping time while demonstrating with her hand gestures and sound effects as she enjoyed her tunes!
Valerie leaves to cherish her loving memory, her sisters Dawn Woods (Howard) Edwards, Carmen Montgomery (Gilbert ) Williams Jr., and brother Michael Woods; special siblings, Edward Montgomery, Sr., Jerri Wilson, Dr. Geraldine (Troy) Marks, Sr., Camille (Ricky) Grady, Clarence (Alisha) Woods and Robert (Stephanie) Woods; niece, Alexaundria Groves; nephews, Nolan Montgomery and Gilbert Williams III; great niece and nephew, Ayden and Ari Monroe; Godchildren, Tashana DeBerry, DeAngelo, Shareesa,,Deborah, and Stephen Wilson; and a host of aunts and uncles who’s unwavering love and support for her, made them more like mother and father figures; Napoleon (Patricia) Pittman, Delois (Henry) Weymon, Mildred (Henry) Curtis, Sr., Mai Margaret Pittman, Geraldine Fitch, Nathaniel (Dorothy) Pittman, James (Maybelle) Pittman, Sr. and Bessie Foster. Special cousins/sisters-brothers, Marlyce and Christopher Pittman, Kim Boyd, Larry Lewis, Jr., Andre Lewis, Natali Lewis, Gregory and James Pittman, Jr., Hank Jr. and Duane Curtis, Marcus and Ericka Pittman, Sr., Milton Pittman, Jr., Shawn Pittman, Sr., Damon and Mary Pittman, Shawn and Whitne Thomas, Jennifer Pittman, Julette Bibbs and Glenda Williams; special friends, Sandra Hawkins, Rose Brown, Robert Neely, Rosie Jordan, and Kathy Bryant and Deborah Comer. Valerie was preceded in death by her mother, Ruby Lee Pittman; bonus fathers, Moses Woods and Edward Montgomery, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Henry (Clara) Pittman, Sr., aunt and uncle, Benjamin & Mary Pittman Sr., Charles Fitch, Sr., Milton Pittman Sr., special grandmother, Lillie Fisher; cousins, Benjamin “Jackie “Pittman, Jr., Marilyn (George) Maher, Sr., Marla Pittman, Andre Pittman, Sr., Elizabeth Pittman, Nicole “Nikki” Fitch and special friend, Renita Turner. Valerie, you’re forever in our hearts. We love you.
