Waddell Grimes was born on October 17, 1934 in Shelby County, Tennessee to Freddie Saline Grimes, who preceded him in death. He grew up on his grandfather’s farm in Arlington, TN and moved in the mid 1970’s to South Bend, IN. He eagerly adapted to his new home surroundings and secured employment with various entities. He was a warm and kind person whose personality garnered him many friends. He was a member of the New Salem Baptist Church where he participated in various roles, including the church choir. He also was a regular participant at the Charles Black Community Center and offered assistance in any way possible to anyone in need who resided in the community.
Waddell departed this life at the age of 86 on November 21, 2020 at the Center for Hospice, Mishawaka, Indiana.
He leaves behind three sisters, Gail (Ray) Elwell of Indianapolis, IN: Marilyn Bassett of Indianapolis and Gwendolyn Allen of Dallas, TX; two brothers, Othor (Barbara) of Indianapolis, IN and Maurice (Brenda) Aldridge, Dallas, TX along with a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends that include the staff of the ADEC Group Home in South Bend, IN.
No formal services are planned at this time.
