Mr. William A. Gantt (Mr. Bill, Poppy) went home to be with the Lord on Monday, November 16, 2015. He was surrounded by his family who loved and respected him dearly. He was 91 years old.
Mr. Gantt was born to Nellie Mae Ezell and Thomas Lee on September 3, 1924 in Mound City Arkansas. He gave His life to Christ and was baptized at the age of 14 at Second St. John Church in Arkansas.
He served his country dutifully for 18 years. Mr. Gantt was so loyal and dedicated to his country that he served time in the U.S. Army, and after ending his career in that branch of service, he served in the U.S. Air Force.. He resided in Cleveland Ohio for most of his life and retired as an Environmental Engineer.
His hobbies were watching sports (The Ohio State Buckeyes being his favorite team), solving crossword and word search puzzles.
In February of 2000 he married his childhood crush, Vera King, whom he treated like a queen. They moved to South Bend Indiana in 2010 where he resided until his death.
Surviving along with his wife, Vera are a sister, Sam Ella Shields, two daughters, Ella Mae Gantt and Chanel Whitby; five sons, Ricardo, Ronald (Dakota), Calvin (Annie), Bruce, Tyrone and Dwayne Gantt. Also, nine step-children were blessed to have him in their lives; Assata Damani, Sylvia Moran(Charles), Cynthia King-Harris (Fred), Rev.   He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Billy Gantt and a stepson, Joseph L. King.
Mr. Gantt was a gentle, humble, soft spoken man with a heart of gold. He was slow to anger and quick to love and accept others. He will be truly missed by his family, but we take pride in knowing he is now in the presence of God receiving his crown of righteousness.
