On May 21, 1938, in Aspen Georgia, Willie Lee Corbitt was born to the union of Charlie Corbitt and Claretha (Burgess) Corbitt. Out of his twelve siblings, Willie was the youngest. Willie was a student in Aspen, Georgia. He relocated to South Bend, Indiana in 1957.
Willie attended the Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, where Pastor Jimmie Jones served as the pastor. He drove for the church’s van ministry and was an active member of the deacon board.
Willie Corbitt and Rosetta Johnson were married in October 1960. Anthony Williams, Albert Johnson, Rita Johnson-Thomas, and Lisa Corbitt-Miller are their four children from this union.
Willie held positions at Avanti, Curley Leep and Freeman Spicer. Additionally, he owned Corbitt Body Shop which was located at Lincolnway West and then Portage Ave.
Willie enjoyed painting vehicles, traveling, cooking, using the CB radio channel (call name) 447, and spending time with his family.
Willie Lee Corbitt leaves to cherish his memory his wife Rosetta, son Albert Johnson of South Bend, IN., daughter Rita (Rudyard) Thomas of Flint, MI., and Lisa (Dammon) Miller of Hattiesburg, MS. In addition to a large number of sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He has four grandchildren, Shawn Williams, Chantel Williams of Jackson MS, Ejaun Thomas of Louisville KY, Darnesha Miller of Hattiesburg, MS. He also has three great grandchildren.
Willie Lee Corbitt was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Corbitt and Claretha (Burgess) Corbitt, one son Anthony Williams, five sisters Charlie Mae Sanders, Geneva McClinclon, Ethel Taylor, Elizabeth Hester and Mary Corbitt: 6 brothers Joe Burgess, Isaiah Burgess, Butler Burgess Sr., Frank Burgess, King Burgess and Charlie Corbitt Jr.
